CSC : What were the basic mantras of your success ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : Hardwork was the basic mantra of my success. Positive outlook towards life, “Dedication and Focus” have been important reasons for my success.

CSC : When did you start preparation for the IAS Examination ? When should one ideally begin thinking about preparing for this exam ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : I started my preparation for IAS Examination during the last semester of my degree program. One should ideally begin thinking about preparing for exam before he enters into any degree program.

CSC : How did you start preparation for the IAS Examination ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : I started my preparation for IAS Exam, by deconstructing the syllabus, approach of examination. For the initial orientation, one should glance through basic NCERTs and newspapers.

CSC : What were your strategies for the lengthy syllabus of General Studies for both Prelims and Mains ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : Smart work is very important since syllabus is huge. One should absorve central ideas for mains examination however, one requires good, intelligent guessing to do well in prelims. Rather than concrete and definite knowledge, we required heuristical knowledge to do well.

CSC : What was your optional ? What was the basis of selecting this optional ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : My optional was Political science and International Relations. Overlapping nature with General Studies + Real interest in Political Science enabled me to do well in optional.

CSC : Tell us something about preparation of essay paper.
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : For essay, one must express ideas in a clear and simple manner, writing quotes is extremely essential for right begining. Also, flow of essay is very important, it should be organised in a proper way.

CSC : How much time did you devote for this exam ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : One year

CSC : How did you manage your time in both prelims and mains examinations ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : Initially, I completed prelims and mains syllabus that was conversing and in intersection. Later, I started with that part in mains, which was exclusive in nature.

CSC : Which is the most difficult part of this exam and why ? What was your strategy to tackle this difficult part ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : Time management and keeping motivation throughout the examination is the most difficult part due to uncertaincity and unpredictability of examination. Positive outlook, optimistic approach coupled with dedication and will power can help.

CSC : What are your suggestions for freshers who want to join coaching institutes for preparation ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : Freshers can take the help of coaching institutions, because they guide the student in right direction, what is to be done and what not to be. So, coaching can be joined. However, freshers must understand that self study is more important than any form of tutoring.

CSC : What was your style of writing in the exam? How was it distinction from the general writing style? How did you develop this writing style ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : My style of answer writing was to simplify things for examiner. I wrote basic introduction, content in bullet points and an optimistic conclusion. I also tried to improve my handwriting and used specific “terms” and expressions.

CSC : Civil Services Exam process is quite strenuous. It requires long hours of constant study. How did you maintain your tempo and what did you do to break the monotony of preparation ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : Maintaining a positive approach, continually interacting with parents broke my monotony of preparation and alleviated pressure.

CSC : How did you prepare for interview ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : I did an extensive and comprehensive preparation while filling DAF. I had given many mock interviews in Vajirao & Reddy Institute specially under the guidance of Dr. S.S. Chaudhary. I prepared and did extensive reading on my hobbies.

CSC : Which type of questions were asked in interview ? Did you answer them all ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : They asked questions, directly from theoretical computer sciences, international relations, socio economic development etc. I was able to answer 90% of the questions.

CSC : Was there any specific area they emphasised upon ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : Yes, my engineering degree is in computer Sc. They asked direct questions from the same.

CSC : Whom would you credit your success ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : I credit my success to the entire society, to which I have been a part of, especially parents, friends and above all almighty God.

 What is your advice to the freshers who are going to appear for this exam ?
Anmol Sher Singh Bedi : Maintain a positive outlook towards life and exam. Always be confident of your chances of clearing the exam. Above all, be kind to the fellow beings and remain focussed towards the goal that you set in your life.
